    As a Staff Accountant Trainee, you report to the Accounting Manager and are responsible for ensuring proper efficiencies applicable in Property Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and Construction Accounting through rotational training and role immersion. With job rotations, intensive learning, and special project assignments, Staff Accountant Trainees can build a solid knowledge base in one year and use those skills to take their careers to the next level. 

     

    Roles You'll Play


      

    THE CREATOR

    • Produce monthly financial reports for properties
    • Build and post monthly journal entries and accruals
    • Generate and provide weekly cash balance summaries
    • Post monthly debt service payments and biweekly payroll entries for properties
    • Help with year-end tax audits

    THE RECONCILER

    • Evaluate and calculate year-end adjusting entries
    • Review bank reconciliations and assist with research items
    • Use your high attention to detail to reconcile loan activity on a quarterly basis
    • Aid Regional Managers with income and expense re-classes as needed
    • Assist Regional Managers and properties with accounting inquiries

    THE APPRENTICE

    • Interact with Accounting associates at all levels to obtain well-rounded, real-world accounting experience
    • Support and work with a variety of associates throughout Cortland, ensuring all of their accounting needs are met
    • Take advantage of as many professional development opportunities as possible – such as “Lunch with the Leader” forums, networking events, and significant exposure to senior leadership
    • Broaden your horizons through direct links to all of our in-house departments (Property Management, Supply Chain, Architecture/Interior Design, Marketing, Talent, Construction, IT, Facilities and Services, Investments, Operations)

    Your Building Blocks of Success


    • Recent graduate with bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
    • Solid understanding of basic accounting rules
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Ability to approach problems both logically and creatively
    • Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple assignments without immediate supervision
