    As a Property Accounting Supervisor, you support staff and senior accountants as they prepare financial statements and assist Community Managers with accounting-related issues.


    Roles You'll Play

    The Leader


    • Supervise and support staff accountants to ensure performance criteria and deadlines are met
    • Help hire and onboard terrific new associates and train them on Cortland accounting policies and procedures
    • Work closely with non-accounting teams to obtain and provide necessary financial information
    • Oversee yearly audits, liaising with the auditors and coordinating PBC documents as requested
    • Mentor and train staff accountants to help them improve their performance


    The Sheriff


    • Ensure the timely distribution of financial reports to internal and external parties as required by the company policy or agreements
    • Analyze escrow accounts to ensure properties have sufficient funds to cover annual tax liabilities
    • Calculate and post monthly allowances for doubtful accounts analysis and asset/property management fees
    • Review the work of staff accountants for accuracy and completeness


    The Facilitator


    • Assist with annual business license renewals, personal property tax filings, etc.
    • Work with the Investments team to set up self-escrow accounts and payments
    • Help the Accounts Payable team by researching the status of payments, placing stop payments, identifying stale-dated checks, and other related tasks.

    Your Building Blocks of Success

    • 4+ years of accounting experience, including at least two in real estate accounting; some managerial experience preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; CPA or MBA a plus
    • Strong communication, planning, organizational, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
    • Working knowledge of financial accounting systems and general ledger reconciliation
    • Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills
    • Exceptional attention to detail while performing multiple assignments under tight deadlines
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
