As a Trainer/HR Generalist, you implement learning initiatives to train associates according to regional needs and Cortland strategies and standards.  You also manage HR functions and processes that include, but are not limited to, associate relations, performance management, and policy implementation.  



Roles You'll Play



  • Organize the logistics around associate development and learning programs, including creating the training environment, maintaining a training schedule, and facilitating learning activities
  • Get associates up to speed on a variety of topics – from orientation, to software applications, to company values and practices
  • Facilitate training either directly or through the field trainer network — delivering support and one-on-one training as requested by the Executive Vice President and Directors of Operations
  • Ensure regional proficiency in Cortland's Standards of Excellence, Sales, and Customer Service practices — providing learning experiences that are consistent with Cortland’s policies and procedures
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation to all new associates
  • Serve as an HR resource to managers; Train new managers on HR practices


  • Develop classroom, web-based, and blended learning programs that are sure to train associates in an engaging way, where they can easily pick up the knowledge you put down
  • Collaborate with the Learning and Development team to assess, design, implement, and customize Cortland learning programs
  • Update and use needs assessment procedures to advise managers on optimal learning solutions and to help design and customize learning materials
  • Design career development plans for Cortland's team members with content that’s fresh, relevant, and compelling


  • Continually seek out new ways to improve the quality of your learning programs
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to evaluate and validate existing programs
  • Track learning data and provide timely reports to build new development initiatives

Your Building Blocks of Success

  • 3+ years of training or client-support experience; experience collaborating with the design of traditional classroom, web-based, and blended learning programs; property management experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of related experience and/or training
  • Able to engage diverse audience types; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively interact with team members at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient with Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office
