As Director of Associate Relations, you provide day-to-day guidance and support to approximately 1,700 valued associates while leading or participating in many multifaceted initiatives and functions across all departments.

 

Roles You'll Play


  

THE CULTIVATOR 

  • Build relationships across all levels of the organization to provide strategic and practical HR support
  • Empower associates to achieve more than they thought possible, provide your vision of what greatness looks like, and remove obstacles in the way of your team achieving its goals
  • Develop your team at every chance by coaching, mentoring, and stretching your direct reports
  • Design and implement best-in-class associate and management experiences
  • Nurture and develop crucial relationships with all of Cortland’s business units
  • Serve as a planner, driver, implementer, and collaborator whose solutions are efficient, effective, and have a positive business impact
  • Ensure all compliance training is up-to-date, engaging, and part of the established curricula

 

THE PIONEER

  • Lead by example to steward, drive, and emphasize company culture and core values throughout the organization
  • Develop, communicate, and implement company-wide policies and procedures
  • Recommend new and innovative approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements
  • Identify meaningful metrics and points of analysis for key HR measures, such as exit interviews and turnover rates, to propel decision making and improvements
  • Drive workforce planning, succession planning, and performance management by working with other Talent teams and cross-functional departments
  • Offer tools and facilitate meetings to ensure ongoing development of associates
  • Provide leadership in identifying, analyzing, and implementing resolutions to a high volume of complex, highly sensitive associate relations issues, including unusual situations where precedents have not been established

 

THE BUSINESS PARTNER 

  • Operate self-sufficiently, take strategic direction, exercise independent judgment, make crucial decisions, and work through appropriate points of contacts to accomplish goals
  • Consult, influence, and partner with all levels of management regarding critical and complex associate relations decisions in the areas of performance management, harassment, business conduct, terminations, restructuring, policies, guidelines, and best practices
  • Facilitate all tactical aspects of immigration processes, including assisting international associates with expatriate assignments, H-1B visas, and employment contracts (primarily in the UK and China)
  • Partner with the Director of Total Rewards and Compliance, who leads payroll, systems, benefits, and compensation administration, on shared initiatives using a cohesive approach to enrich the associate experience throughout the associate life cycle
  • Assist with HR needs related to mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions
  • Offer oversight and guidance on leaves of absence and workers’ compensation matters
  • Ensure that all company HR-related compliance matters as well as federal, state, and local laws are proactively and effectively communicated

Your Building Blocks of Success


  • Stellar 10+ years progressive human resources experience, with heavy focus on associate relations with management responsibilities
  • 4-year college degree in human resources or related field; Master’s degree, PHR, SPHR, CCP highly preferred
  • Ability to manage both strategic and tactical aspects of role
  • General knowledge of immigration processes, laws, and regulations
  • Global and cultural awareness; bilingual abilities in Spanish or Mandarin preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local employment, wage, and salary laws and regulations including, but not limited to, EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and OSHA
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with the ability to thrive in a rapid-paced, often-changing work environment
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to manage cross-functional relationships within the organization while being a champion of change
  • Experience with cultivating, negotiating, and building business partnerships
  • Change agent who can effectively communicate vision to senior leaders and get buy-in from all levels of associates
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office and varied HRIS software such as UltiPro
  • Ability to work long hours and travel up to 25%
