Role Overview


  

The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for implementation, enhancement, maintenance, and operational support of Cortland’s data networks including associated security aspects. The Sr. Network Engineer will partner with internal and external team members, technology experts, and external vendors to in delivering exceptional network quality and availability in the most efficient and effective manner possible. This individual will also ensure appropriate monitoring of network connectivity, utilization, reliability, and latency keeping existing production systems optimally configured for high performance, uninterrupted operation, and scalability for growth.

 

The Role You'll Play


  

  • Gain understanding Cortland’s processes, system configuration, systems integration, and enhancement points across our various business areas
  • Develop relationships with business area management and users to drive the effectiveness of technology solutions
  • Interact with business partners on an ongoing basis on issues, progress, and planned and potential new functionality
  • Coordinate with associates to assess business issues, map processes, gather and define requirements, design process and system solutions
  • Write effective and detailed business and system design requirements, and record system documentation
  • Provide recommendations for eCommerce and Intranet systems improvements/enhancements
  • Develop and test technical customizations and integrations in supporting Cortland’s eCommerce and Intranet platforms
  • Manage mini-projects and change requests and coordinate with peers and outside resources to ensure a timely implementation and deliver progress reports to the business unit and IT management teams
  • Maintain system and data integrity
  • Participate on multiple (and sometimes concurrent) implementation and continuous improvement projects
  • Keep current on eCommerce trends and technology
  • Keep current on Intranet and internal communications trends and technology
  • Analyze current systems and provide senior management with alternative methods as applicable
  • Provide guidance, documentation methodologies, development specifications, and system information to contractors / consultants as necessary

Required Knowledge and Experience


 

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field required
  • 7+ years of networking experience required
  • Networking certification required
  • Experience with Cisco or other common brand implementations of LAN, WAN, VPN, firewall, secure wireless, remote access
  • Working knowledge of technologies including VLANs, VTP, 802.1q, 802.1x, PoE, trunks, T1/DS1, MPLS, TLS, PPP
  • Working knowledge of network routing & services
  • Experience with various Cisco products such as WLC, WAAS, IPS, ACS.
  • Solid background with firewall security policies involving complex objects, rules, NATs, inspection policies, etc
  • Experience with VMWare, Citrix, Active Directory
