Role Overview

At Cortland Partners, you map the story of your success. We don't adhere to the status quo, we love outside industry perspective, and we thrive on exploring possibilities and reimagining solutions. As an innovative leader in multifamily, our high performance continues to drive exponential growth – and we invite you to join us on our journey towards real estate excellence. With tools and guidance to sharpen your skills, you can forge your own career path, love what you do, and let it show.

As an Interior Design Intern, you help our Design team create and present compelling interior space designs for our communities while managing your own projects and assignments.

Roles You'll Play

THE SPONGE

  • Interact with Interior Design and Architecture professionals to build an in-depth understanding of real-world methods and challenges
  • Learn how to analyze design objectives, spatial requirements, and space planning – all while drawing sketches that accurately portray the team’s visions
  • Gain familiarity with typical interior design tasks – including the development of all presentation items, schematic budgeting, and selection of furniture, fixtures, and materials
  • Learn how Cortland’s philosophy, principles, and policies guide the conduct of our projects and operations

THE GO-GETTER

  • Participate in the development of new design concepts and then convert them into mock-up packages, proposals, detail sketches, and construction documents
  • Help coordinate the selection, ordering, and tracking of finishes, furnishings, and accessories
  • Visit community construction sites to monitor the installation and implementation of Design team plans
  • Lead your own projects, as assigned, and present your results to the team
  • Research and recommend process improvements to drive efficiency and project effectiveness

THE NETWORKER

  • Participate in as many formal and informal development activities as you can, including “Lunch with the Leader” forums
  • Ask your colleagues on the Design team, including senior executives, about our industry and the typical (and not-so-typical) career tracks at Cortland
  • Broaden your understanding of our company by reaching out to team members in other functional areas, such as Supply Chain, Marketing, Talent, Facilities and Services, Investments, Operations, and Construction

Our Vision of What Success Looks Like

  • Our managers and senior executives have flagged you as an “unconventional thinker” and “future leader.”
  • You’re so effective in collaborating with a wide variety of roles — not to mention a wide range of personalities — that there’s talk of nominating you for office mayor!
  • Your enthusiasm for learning and volunteering to help is so contagious, your colleagues feel extra motivated and seem to have a little more pep in their step.

Your Building Blocks of Success

  • Full-time sophomore or junior student college student enrolled in an interior design or related field of study
  • Demonstrated interest in a property management career
  • Strong sketching, communication, organizational, and project management skills
  • Well-versed in units of measure; able to clearly communicate site-specific dimensions
  • Excellent work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude
